SharePoint 2019 Installation and Configuration
In this blog post we are going to cover SharePoint 2019 installation and configuration part:
- SharePoint 2016 Installation and Configuration.
- Upgrading Service Applications and Web Applications from SharePoint 2013 to 2016.
- SharePoint 2019 Installation and Configuration.
- Upgrading Service Applications Databases from SharePoint 2016 to 2019.
- Upgrading Content Databases and Site Collections from SharePoint 2016 to 2019.

Install SharePoint 2019
Mount Installation Media and open folderClick on Splash Application
Install Software prerequisites
- Click Install Software prerequisites
- Click next and wait for it to complete the installation of all the prerequisite software (approx. 10-15 min)
SharePoint 2019 Server Installation
Click on Install SharePoint Server
Provide license Key and click Continue
Accept license terms and click Continue
Click Install Now
Installation progress displayed in progress bar, wait for it to complete (approx. 10-15 min).
Uncheck Run Configuration Wizard now and click Close.
Configure SQL Server Alias using cliconfg utility
Create SQL Server alias SP19SQLAlias. You can follow my see part 1 of this series on SharePoint 2016 installation to configure SQL Server alias.Run Configuration Wizard
- Run SharePoint configuration wizard.
- Reboot the server and start configuration wizard.
- Click Next to start.
- Click Yes.
- Provide Database settings and click Next.
- Database Server Name: SP19SQLAlias
- Database Name: SharePoint_Config
- UserName: domain\username
- Password: user's password from Password vault.
- Click next if issue occurs in connecting to SQL server then please follow the procedure mention in issues.
Create passphrase and click Next - Select Server role based on selected Topology. For the testing purpose in DR I’ve selected Single Server Farm.
- Select Specify Port Number and type 2019
- Check the summary of configurations and click next to continue configuration.
- Configuration wizard will complete 10 tasks and create Central Administration site.
Wait for it to complete (approx. 10-15 min). - On Successful completion, Central Administration site will be created.
- Click Finish to close the configuration wizard and open Central Admin Site.
- Click Start the Wizard
- Select Managed account or provide new and then deselect the services if you are going to restore from SharePoint 2013/2016 databases i.e.
IIS Configuration
SharePoint Central Admin and Web Service Configured. And Application Pools created for application and services.Patch SharePoint Server
Install latest update from SharePoint update store and run configuration wizard to configure SharePoint environment.https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/officeupdates/sharepoint-updates
This will finish the SharePoint 2019 installation and configuration. SharePoint 2019 farm is ready to use, if you are not upgrading it from SharePoint 2013/2016 then create Web Applications, Site Collection and enjoy the new environment. For upgrading SharePoint 2016 databases stay tuned and wait for next post of this series.
